Oliver Mutukudzi will be a special guest on the "Best Ambiance" program on KCMU 90.3 FM Seattle Public Radio on Monday August 2, 1999. The program is broadcast between 6:00 - 9:00pm but listen out for Tuku around 7:30pm.
Oliver Mtukudzi, "Tuku" as he is known to friends and fans alike, is the proud, expressive and innovative voice that has been making musical history in and outside of his Zimbabwean homeland for more than 20 years. His style is original, yet pays homage to the traditional forms of mbira, the South African mbaqanga, JIT and katekwem (the traditional drumming patterns of the Korekore clan). It is this originality, along with a deep, darkly charismatic voice, that attracts fans and followers throughout the world. Bonnie Raitt sums up "Tuku" music when she says "When I first heard Oliver Mtukudzi something happened. To try to explain it, is like asking someone why they love chocolate". Tune in to KCMU 90.3FM, Seattle on Monday 2nd August between 6:00 - 9:00pm and listen to Tuku music for yourself.
