MUTAMA (six women vocal/percussion ensemble) was brought together by Kelly Takunda Orphan and Amber Hines in 1998. Mutama’s original music is rooted in many cultural musical traditions — from the music of the Middle East, Southern and Western Africa and Vietnam to American folk, gospel and contemporary music. As women of many cultures, ages and backgrounds, they share a common goal — to create music that heals the human spirit.
