Chivaraidze
A new CD by Dutiro Chartwell
Chivaraidze is a collaboration between Chartwell Dutiro, Elmar Pohl, and Sebastian Pott. The music features several variations in tuning of the well-known Mbira Huru (’big mbira’) as well as the Matepe, a 26-key Mbira that is played very differently from the Mbira Huru.
The music was recorded live in a sitting room in a relaxed environment. The context enabled the musicians to capture the core of traditional Zimbabwean Mbira music.
